Here's what I think...

My Philosophy

You only live once, so why hold back? I've met so many people who regret not doing something when they had the chance. To avoid this, I believe you have to think far into the future. For example: When I was a kid, I passed up opportunities only a kid can have, like playing on the McDonald's playground. Now that I'm older, I don't have that kind of freedom. Now I would give tons just to run through the tunnels and jump in the ball pit. The point is to take what you can when you can get it, or you'll regret it later.

Also, never get into an argument without seeing from your opponents point of view. You have to slip into their shoes and see what you look like to them. I've had years of practice with this method and even though I still have arguements with my family, they are no longer irrational shouting contests.

Well, that about wraps up my philosophies on living. Oh, one other thing. Don't be afraid of something you've never tried. If you don't try it first, you won't even know what it is you're afraid of.

Teenagers and Drugs

This is more of an open-end topic I'd like to discuss. I see dozens of anti-drug commercials, protecting teens and whatnot. Then I think about the kids that get stoned, and talk about their experiences getting stoned, and I wonder about who these advertisers are really reaching. Is it the parents, to show them how to govern their kids in a half minute commercial? Is it little kids, who watch the worst accidents involving drugs on some awareness announcement so they can't sleep at night? I know these are mostly for the teenagers, but the marketers missed a giant flaw. Only a small percentage of teenagers aren't risk-takers. To take risks -not constantly, just occaisonally- is thrilling to almost all teens. Things like a prank call, high speeding on a deserted highway, or the casual pass of pot around friends. The commercials they are showing us can not only leave a teen unconvinced, but might even inspire them to try it. If something so small is so bad, then it's taking a big risk, right?

I think about cigarette smokers, and how many there are that smoke almost continually throughout the day. I believe that if marijauana was ever legalized, they might lose a lot of teens because there would be no excitement left in smoking it. On the other hand, it would probably do the same thing as cigarettes: millions of people smoking it every day. Right now, it's hard to see any kind of solution.
